Man Barricades Himself Inside Bedroom In Fairfield House

A 36-year-old man who was off his medications held police at bay for several hours before surrendering.

The incident took place around 1:46 a.m. Tuesday when Fairfield Police Department officers responded to the area of University Drive for a report of an emotionally disturbed man who had gone off of his medication, said Fairfield Police Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

The man made several comments about killing himself and his family members and barricaded himself in his bedroom, Kalamaras.

"Officers established communications with the man where he made several requests to be killed by police," Kalamaras said.

The Emergency Services Unit was activated and officers communicated with the man for several hours before getting him to surrender at 4:13 a.m. 

The unidentified man was turned over to AMR ambulance where he was transported to an area hospital for psychiatric evaluation. He was not charged as this was considered a medical episode
